Each of the 52 fixtures was retrofitted with 8 'state of the art' dimmable, high-output T5s. The lighting designers, Thompson & Sears intended the fixtures to act primarily as up lights. The ballast pans were painted to further control the color temperature of the light.

The powerful sources have enough punch to wash the beautiful Guastavino tile above. By specifying concentric rows of 3" holes in the ballast pans, enough light leaked down to illuminate the new glazing. By design, the fixtures appear from the ground to be lit by incandescent sources.

These fixtures are great examples of sophisticated lighting design and technology working together to create more energy efficient fixtures while producing better quality light.
