Location: 1 West 72th St at Central Park West, New York, NY

The Dakota, built in 1884 as New York’s first luxury residence building, often housing many public figures, is one of the five most visited architectural sites in New York City.

Flanking the main entrance of the building on West 72nd Street are façade sconces, restored by Aurora Lampworks in the spring of 2002. The scope of work included repainting the fixtures which are made of a non-ferrous alloy, installation of new tempered and beveled glass, gilding of decorative florettes, and conversion from electric to gas. In order to meet the challenge of maintaining enough oxygen flowing inside the fixture to keep the flame burning without the threat of heavy winds blowing it out, we designed a special venting system and a custom burner with an exterior on/off paddle.
