Aurora helps navigate you through a wide spectrum of needs when approaching each new project such as:

Choice of lamping – A vast array of choices are available in lamp (bulbs) technology and require assessing the needs of the project. Whether finding a replica of an existing historic lamp or sourcing a lamp that is more energy efficient, Aurora has the capability and resources to clarify the options of each project. We also have extensive experience in gas lighting including gas to electric or electric to gas conversions.

Wiring – Rewiring of historic fixtures often brings a diverse range of choices. Whether electrifying a fixture originally designed for candles or gas to modernizing the wiring on a historical fixture, our extensive knowledge on the subject leads each client to the best solution. We do retrofitting from US standards to European standards and vise versa and can customize your installation to meet National Electric Code standards as well as New York City Code standards. Our collaboration with Underwriters Laboratory (UL) is always a valued part of our process.

Finishing – Our understanding of historic fixtures can help determine original color palettes and the recreation of them. By combining old world techniques with modern scientific resources our artisans create finishes that capture of the historical context of each individual piece. We strive to maintain the original patina of each fixture and maintain that quality with the lastest materials and technology. In the conservation arena, we use conservation grade cleaners and techniques to preserve the original finish. Should the project require more aggressive treatments we have developed proprietary techniques for the removal of unwanted or damaged finishes. We offer plating, painting, hot and cold patinas.

Glass – Glass is one of the most common elements of lighting fixtures. We bring a depth of understanding to the many different processes and types of glass including stained glass, flat, beveled, tempered blown and slumped. We can replicate original glass our extensive base of worldwide resources and glass artisans. Our process for cleaning original glass is aimed at maintaining the distinct character and integrity of the piece.
